About the Artist

Avi Amesbury is an Australian ceramic artist, exhibiting nationally and internationally.

She practices her art full-time out of her South Coast studio, a natural environment which provides much of the inspiration for her work.

From her early years growing up "on the edge of the desert in Western Australia" the landscpape loomed large in her life. Here it was was hot and dry with summer thunder and lightning storms and "a horizon that went on forever". In winter the clear nights were full of stars and the desert, freezing cold.

This love of nature and the landscape still inpires and motivates Avi and her art today. From her local environment Avi  collects materials such as clays, sand, wood-ash, volcanic rock ash, pumice and seaweed and incorporates these materials into her porcelain forms to capture the spirit, colours and beauty and to tell the story of this country and its ancient lands.
